Yuryev: "We should have outplayed Barcelona" Теги: SPARTAK YURYEV

Alexander Yuryev, 1996 team’s forward, who became the author of the decisive goal to Dynamo Kiev’s gates and the best finisher in his own team, shared his impressions about Spartak Cup that ended the day before:

- Emotions overwhelm us after the tournament, as we had been preparing seriously for Spartak Cup. We were eager to play decently; it’s great that we have coped to do this.

- You scored three goals in the tournament, which of the goals do you like most of all?

- I do like all, because I did hope to be able to score in the tournament. I’ve succeeded to achieve this thanks to my team partners. Probably, the most important goal was to Kievers’ gates. That episode was lucky: the ball hit my foot and flew into the net, though before that I’ve been failing to score on numerous occasions.

- Did the team come to play against Dynamo Kiev with a special state of mind?

- Certainly, because we are aware that even since the times of the USSE Kiev is a fundamental opponent for Spartak.

- What can you say about the teams that surpassed Spartak in the final table?

- Both teams have impressed with their playing. In the match against representatives of eminent Barcelona Academy it was interesting to assess our own level to understand, whether we can play with them head-to-head – and we have been able. Honestly speaking, I think we should have won in that game, but we lacked just a bit, though we have saved our own net from a goal as well, special thanks to our defense. Celtic has surprised: their adult team doesn’t shine, but the junior team has demonstrated high quality football. The Scottish guys has reliable defense and excellent forward, they play compactly.

- The third place is the deserved outcome for Spartak in this tournament, isn’t it?

- I presume, yes. If we could have played better in certain moments, we would pretend for higher positions.
